In July, I finally crossed the river to visit Fu’s Repair Shop. It was a scorching evening and I was looking to find refuge on a shaded patio. Resting just above the Garneau streetcar, along with walking and biking paths, the enclosed patio at Fu’s offered exactly what I was looking for.
The wait time was about 45 minutes. Long, but it can easily be spent walking through neighbourhoods or finding some of the various green spaces tucked just off of 109th Street. Once it was time to be seated, I could appreciate the patio's design at Fu’s. To me, it felt as if I was removed from the hectic noise of cars and motorcycles on the street. Instead, I was surrounded by patio lanterns and plants in what felt like a backyard kickback. Picnic tables and patio fireplaces accompanied by side tables created the perfect casual dining atmosphere.
Service at Fu’s is phenomenal. The wait staff are quick, friendly and knowledgeable. If you don’t know what type of dishes you are looking for, take the risk and ask for server recommendations. Accompanied by my wonderful girlfriend, we ordered three spectacular dishes (images featured below): the Jane Doe, Truffle Siu Mai, and the Tossed Cold Noodles. All three dishes were a home-run, perfect for splitting a light meal. We also tried out the Melona-Soju cocktail that had been making its rounds through Instagram stories, which is ideal for summer days but I’d knock one back any evening.
I am not a cuisine connoisseur by any stretch of the imagination but I have no doubt in my mind that Fu’s Repair Shop is going to continue to climb the ranks of the Edmonton food scene, bringing a new look and vibe to its surrounding areas and opening people’s eyes even further to what Edmonton truly has to offer.
If you have not gone to Fu’s yet, what are you waiting for? Check ‘em out… they’ll fix you good.
